- Lot Description
Right-handed starter Tom Murphy began his big-league career with the California Angels in 1968, going 5-6 with a 2.17 ERA in 99 innings. He pitched 215 innings in 1969 when he wore this offered jersey, finishing with a 10-16 record in 35 starts with a 4.21 ERA . Control was an issue during Murphy's sophomore campaign as he led the American League in hit batsmen (21) and wild pitches (16). In 1970, he tamed his wildness and went 16-13 over 227 innings with a 4.24 ERA for the Halos. Murphy played twelve seasons (1968-79) with stints on six teams, finishing with a career 68-101 record and a very respectable 3.78 ERA.
This Tom Murphy 1969 game worn road Angels jersey exhibits solid evenly distributed use. "ANGELS" is arched across the chest in two-color felt material is his No. "41" on the verso. The flannel button-up shirt is designed with four small holes under each armpit for better breathing during the hot summer. Proper Tim McAuliffe tagging is sewn on the left front tail with "69" (year) and "42" (size) tags in tandem above a separate strip tag with "Murphy" chain-stitched in green. The MLB 100 years patch normally found on the left sleeve appears to have been removed. Numbers and letters are all-original and the clean shirt remains in excellent overall shape. The only condition issues to speak of are fraying and slight separation in isolated areas on the front 'A' and back numbers.
