- Lot Description
This offered 1980 San Diego Padres home jersey was worn by Dick Phillips. The former PCL star served as the team's first base coach and hitting instructor under manager Jerry Coleman. Phillips' playing career lasted from 1951 to '67 interrupted by time served in the Korean War. He was MVP of the Pacific Coast League in 1961 with the Tacoma Giants (AAA). His best season in the Majors came in 1963 with the Washington Senators when he hit ten homers in 321 at-bats as a first baseman and utility infielder.
The white knit jersey has "padres" in orange, yellow and brown tackle twill on the front, with No. "37" in the same format on the verso. "PHILLIPS" is arched in brown lettering on a white nameplate across the upper back. The pullover shirt is designed with a V-neck collar trimmed in San Diego's classic colors along with that same fan-favorite color scheme on the end of the ribbed sleeves. Size tagging is absent inside the collar, having been removed. There is a strip tag on the left front tail with "37 80" for the jersey number and season. The shirt exhibits a ton of visual wear with noticeable areas of soiling, spot staining, fraying and puckering.
