Featured here is a special pairing of a 2021 Copa América Final Lionel Messi match issued jersey and AFA staff winner’s medal celebrating Argentina’s 2021 South American Cup title in Brazil. In an epic Final at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro against their rival hosts, Argentina triumphed 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ángel Di María in the first half. For Leo, it marked his first major trophy with La Albiceleste. The offered 2021 Copa América jersey was issued to Messi for the Argentina vs. Brazil Final on July 10, 2021. Players typically receive at least two shirts for every scheduled match and nowadays most starters change shirts at halftime. Messi played the entire 90+ minutes, and this shirt was not presented to us as one he wore. According to a trusted source, it is one of just five issued to Messi by the AFA (Argentine Football Association) for the Final.
The Argentina National Team shirt comes in traditional sky blue with white stripes. Messi's iconic number "10" appears on the chest and in larger font on the reverse. "MESSI" appears on the upper back. Numbers and letters are done in black Applique. There is a black Adidas logo on the right chest and a Copa América trophy in the middle with the Final match details (teams, date & city). The left chest has the AFA crest with two gold stars (Argentina had won two WC titles to that point). The left sleeve is adorned with a special patch honoring Argentina’s 14 Copa América titles (before they won #15 that evening in Rio). The right sleeve bears an official “CONMEBOL COPA AMERICA 2021 FINAL” patch. On the right front tail is a black "Adidas Licensed Product 2020 " label. The wash instructions tag inside the left shirttail has a “Revisado 20” sticker, apparently meaning it had been “reviewed” or “examined.” The 100% polyester jersey with proper Adidas tagging comes in size "6" (labeled within collar) and exhibits no visible wear. Our consignor has a trusted source who procured this shirt directly from the Argentina National Team. Includes full authentication paperwork from MEARS.
The accompanying 2021 Copa América winner’s medal was awarded to an Argentina National Team staff member. The gold medal has an artistic depiction of the Copa América trophy on one side with “AL CAMPEÓN” (To the Champion) on top and the 2021 Copa América legend on the bottom. The other side shows the continent of South America with “1916” (inaugural tournament). Diameter is 59 mm and thickness is 4 mm. The medal comes attached to its blue 2021 Copa América branded ribbon. Total weight is 108 grams (including ribbon). It shows minor wear from handling and presents NM-MT. The blue pouch it came with is included.
