Muhammad Ali was still an up-and-comer fighting under his given name of Cassius Clay when he fought George Logan on April 23, 1962. The event was held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, with the Clay-Logan fight being at the top of the card. Logan was 25 years old with a 24–7–1 record. For 20-year-old Cassius Clay, this would be just his 13th professional fight.
Former Heavyweight champ and boxing legend Jack Dempsey predicted a victory for Clay, and the odds makers agreed to the tune of a 4:1 favorite for the 1960 Olympic gold medalist. In the early going, a jab from Clay injured Logan’s eye. Logan battled through it, later claiming his cornermen advised him to use low blows against Clay but that he refused. The ref ended the bout in the fourth round, awarding a technical knockout to Clay and making him a perfect 13-0.
This incredibly scarce poster was displayed on-site at the Los Angeles Sports Arena for the Clay-Logan fight. Both boxers are depicted in their boxing stances with event details in bold blue and red typography. This is the only example to surface with both blue and red print and just the third of any kind to hit the auction block. (The other two sold in 2021 & 2022 and were in all blue type.) The poster measures 22" by 28" and comes very well-preserved in EX/NM condition with some minor toning and spot staining. It has been professionally matted and framed to dimensions of 28.5” x 34.5".
