ADDENDUM: Heading and description have been updated as of 7/22/2025 at 10am PST.
Promoted as "The Fight of a Lifetime" for the undisputed heavyweight championship, the second fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Bugner took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 1, 1975. The Hungarian fought bravely and lasted the full 15 rounds in sweltering heat, but Ali ultimately defended his title belt with a unanimous decision. This bout preceded Ali's famous "Thrilla in Manilla" battle against Joe Frazier.
Presented here is a closed-circuit Ali-Bugner II poster in Chinese that presumably hung in New York City's Chinatown to promote the fight. A public viewing of the live feed from Malaysia was held at Madison Square Garden on June 30, 1975 (time zone difference). As rare as it is for one of these to surface (only the second to our knowledge), this one is blessed with not one but two autographs from The Greatest himself.
The bright yellow poster with red and black type features images of the main boxers on the lineup card that evening. Aside from a bit of water staining on the righthand side, it remains very well-preserved with no creasing or color fading. Images of Ali, Bugner and others remain sharp and print is still bold. Ali has signed this scarcely seen poster twice (both in 9.5/10 blue marker), once with just his name and a second time with the date “6-4-’89" inscribed. The poster comes shrink wrapped on a white foam board (overall 25" x 29.5") for easy display and storage. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA for the Ali signatures.
