Model 1855 Artillery Shell Jacket, c. 1861-65, blue twill-woven cloth body with red herringbone twill tape on cuffs, collar, and body, coarse gray twill woven lining, and white muslin sleeve linings, marked size 4 in right sleeve lining with undecipherable inspector's stamp.
Provenance: Sold to benefit the acquisition fund of the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College.
Cloth in very good condition, missing three cuff buttons and a few chest buttons are loose but pinned to jacket, several loose seams in sleeve lining.
