A rare carved stone bowl from the Northwest Coast. The form features a deep interior cavity and an exterior face with stylized anthropomorphic features in relief. Carved from dense dark stone with a rich, naturally aged surface showing mineral encrustation and weathering. Includes a handwritten and signed letter from Hill's Indian Crafts, Vancouver, BC, dated September 17, 1992, affirming that the bowl was authenticated by the Museum of Anthropology and dated to approximately 1000 AD, along with a card noting "Found 5 miles south of Alert Bay-East Coast of Vancouver Island." Approx. ht. 4 ½, lg. 6 ¾, wd. Provenance: Private collection, Connecticut; Earl Duncan, KS.
