Early 19th century, a rare wood grating stool from the Tuamotus, (trees being scarce), the original hard-shell blade replaced by a metal one, standing of four short, heavy legs, the seat slightly curving, with dark encrusted patina, (minor wood loss). Lg. 27 ½, wd. 9 ½, ht. 6 ½ in. Provenance: Mark Blackburn, Albuquerque, NM; Norman Hurst, Cambridge, MA; Collected on the island of Fakarava by a U.S. naval officer, 1940s. Published: San Francisco Chronicle, vol. x, no. 1, March and no. 6, 1957.
