- Lot Description
Afghanistan, second half of 12th century, with flat base, the sides curving inwards and then flaring outwards, with very finely incised decoration, the base with a stellar interlace containing figural representations of signs of the zodiac on a central rosette, within a band of kufic inscription and an outer band of trefoils, the rim with cartouches of human-headed Kufic script on a scrolling ground. Note: The inscriptions around the rim in cursive are: Glory and Prosperity and Happiness and.....Well-being and Entirety and (Prophet's)Intercession and....and Gratitude and Gratefulness and Gratefulness and Ease and Ease and (God's) Grace and Health and Ease and (God's) Mercy and Entirety and Ease and Eminence and Ease, and Entirety and Health and Entirety and...and Entirety and...and Affluence to its owner"; and around the base in kufic: "With Good-fortune and Blessing and Wealth and Well-being and Gratitude and Generosity and Happiness and...Entirety and Entirety...and Gratefulness and Generosity...and Entirety...and Generosity". Minor dents and scrapes, otherwise very good condition. Dia. 56 cm.
