Milagro-quevedo Culture, Guayas province, Equador, circa 100 B.C. - 500 A.D., early intermediate period, the bronze possibly sand cast adze-shaped modular transformation effigy object with a bird-like profile with open beak, with a circular face inside with round eyes and mouth and raised nose, possibly representing the owl warrior, the front surface with cut marks, probably for ceremonial use. Lg. 9 1/2, wd. 4 1/4 in.
Provenance: Private collection, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Purchased in London in the late 1970's.
