"The Joke", oil on panel, unsigned, depicting a man pulling a stunt on a woman who has fallen asleep at a tavern table. In black lacquered Dutch style frame with gilt liner, OS: 22 1/2" x 19", SS: 14 1/2" x 11". Cleaned and restored. Includes early 18th c. engraving that features this image among a 'trompe l'oeil' assemblage.
