- Lot Description
This is a Smith & Wesson Model 1913, chambered in the now-obsolete .35 S&W Auto cartridge. Produced between 1913 and 1921 in limited numbers (approx. 8,350 units), the Model 1913 represents S&W’s first-ever semi-automatic pistol. The design is derived from an earlier European pistol by Charles Clement and underwent eight distinct mechanical iterations over its production life.
This pistol features the model’s signature grooved slide, ambidextrous middle-finger safety, and smooth wooden grip panels. It is part of a scarce group of American semi-automatics issued unofficially to early federal agents—including those in the Bureau of Investigation, precursor to the FBI. This particular example is in excellent condition, with fine surfaces and clean mechanics; please consult the photos to assess its specific finish and part quality.
