A Rolex Explorer II stainless steel automatic wristwatch, reference 16550, serial number 8.9XX,XXX, produced circa 1985–1986. This transitional model introduced the sapphire crystal, independently adjustable 12-hour hand, and Rolex Caliber 3085 automatic movement, replacing the long-running Explorer II reference 1655. It features the desirable ivory dial, a naturally aged variation originally produced as a white dial that has developed a warm cream tone over time. Its transitional design and distinctive dial coloration have made it one of the most sought-after Explorer II models among vintage Rolex collectors.
