Small Maoist Porcelain Vase China dated 1968 height: 11 in., width 7 in., depth 5 in., This cylindrical porcelain vase is decorated with Cultural Revolution transfer prints of paramount leader Mao Zedong and his then close comrade and second-in-command Lin Biao. Beneath the images of Mao and Lin are the words translates as: Chairman Mao and his close friend/comrade Lin Biao inspect the Cultural Revolution army. The reverse of the vase is decorated with the Chairman Mao quotation / Arrest revolutionists, Promote production Lin Biao, whose actual name was Lin Yurong, was a Communist military leader who played a critical role in the communist victory in the Chinese civil war, most particularly in Chinas north-eastern provinces. He was the general who led the PeopleLiberation Army into Beijing in 1949. He largely stayed away from front-line politics until the Cultural Revolution when he rose to become second-in-charge and Mao Zedongs designated and constitutional successor. He died in a plane crash in September 1971 in Mongolia after what appeared to be a failed coup to remove Mao. He was posthumously condemned as a traitor. The base of the vase says in Chinese: Made in 1968. The item is in fine condition with cracks, chips or repairs. Provenance Missouri Private Collection
