Auction Description

AFTER DARK/SPRING 2026 by Vallots Auctioneers

Our AFTER DARK/SPRING auction features fine art from masters of the male form and many of the 20th century's most important artists. Artworks include: Joe Brainard (two paintings and one large finished graphite); Rex (a rare pen and ink and scarce hand-signed lithograph); The Hun (several important original artworks created for publication); MATT (Charles Kerbs) (original illustrations); John Dugdale (an unusually large and personalized cyanotype portrait of his friend, the Cuban-American guitarist Ariel Aparicio); Raymond Han (two exceptionally fine and intimate self-portraits); Tom of Finland (a scarce signed and numbered lithograph); very scarce Sam Steward drawings; MATT drawings (to be offered in collections); paintings by the WPA artist Lloyd Lozes Goff; Robert Gable pen and ink; and many exceptionally scarce pieces of queer ephemera, including a large 1980s photo album collection belonging to fashion designer Thierry Mugler and his partner Keith Dunhill documenting Dunhill's many parties and club venues; a Fred Halstead 8mm film reel; and many other once-in-a-lifetime and impossible-to-find items and artworks, most of which have not been available in decades.

Mark your calendars for the live-streamed simulcast sale on April 23rd, 2026, at 7PM EST, and tune in to the video for exclusive commentary from our auctioneer.

Terms & Conditions

By registering or bidding at the auction, the buyer agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.

BUYER'S PREMIUM

All lots are subject to a 25% buyer's premium (28% on Bidsquare's Hub). Credit card processing fees will be added to the buyer's premium. If you wish to pay by COD or wire, please contact us within three (3) days after the auction. Credit cards on file are charged automatically three (3) days after the auction. Invoices in excess of $5000 must be paid by wire or ACH at our discretion. Please email or call us for assistance with wire or ACH payments (info@vallots.com).

PAYMENT

Payment is due within five (5) days from the auction, after which the auctioneer may cancel the sale or bring an action against the purchaser for the bid amount. All bids are in US dollars. Bidders who have credit cards on file will have their cards on file charged automatically three (3) days after the auction.

INSPECTION

Additional photographs of any lot are available, and in person and virtual inspections are available.

CONDITION:

Every lot is sold "as is," "where is," and "without warranty," whether express or implied. Lighting and electronics have not been tested and should be professionally evaluated prior to use. Artworks have not been examined outside of the frame unless otherwise stated.

Bidders are responsible for determining the physical condition of items prior to bidding. The absence of a condition report does not indicate the absence of condition issues with the lot. Requests for condition reports, additional photographs, or a video inspection can be obtained via email at: info@vallots.com (any condition statement given is offered as an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact).
Our auction items are antique and vintage, often from estates, and are not in perfect condition. They often show normal signs of age, use, and wear, which might not be specified in a condition report.

AUTHENTICITY AND CONDITION

We will not sell an item if we do not reasonably believe it to be authentic (as described), and we will not describe an item if we do not believe our description is reasonably accurate. We do not, however, warrant anything express or implied. Every lot is sold "as is," "where is," "without warranty" and "with all faults" whether express or implied. Bidders are responsible for determining the accuracy of our description and condition of every lot and for making their own determinations as to attribution, period, materials, authenticity, quality, date, condition and value.

NO REFUNDS

All sales are final. We do not give or accept refunds for any reason. Please be sure that you wish to purchase an item before bidding on it. Please inquire about the condition of any item or request additional photographs before bidding. Please anticipate that shipping costs may exceed your winning bid. Please consider that the vintage and antique items we offer will always show some signs of wear and age.

AUCTIONEERS DISCRETION

The auctioneer reserves the right to accept or reject any bid, declare any item unsold, or cancel any sale at the auctioneer's sole discretion.

ABANDONED LOTS

Lots purchased and not picked-up or shipped after 60 days shall be deemed abandoned and disposed of by us without compensation to the purchaser.

PHOTOGRAPHS

All images of lots belong to us, they may not be reproduced for any reason. We reserve the right to advertise the results of any item we sell.

Autopay
If you have not contacted Vallot Auctioneers to arrange payment within 3 days of the time that invoice is sent, we will charge the credit card you used to register for the auction for the amount of your invoice.

Sales Tax

Online purchases from Vallot Auctioneers may be subject to sales tax. If you are tax-exempt, you can submit your tax-exempt certificate to prevent the collection of tax.

RISK OF LOSS

Once the bid is won, the risk of loss passes to the winning bidder.

DISPUTES

All disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in the State of Rhode Island. In no event shall our liability exceed the amount paid to us by a winning bidder.

AMENDMENTS We reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions.
