After Claude Michel Clodion (French, 1734-1814). "Abduction of Persephone", patinated bronze, incised signature to columnar support. A late 19th/ early 20th century casting depicting a scene from Greek mythology as Hades, god of the underworld, abducts Persephone, the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, down to the underworld to be his wife, the sculpture depicting Persephone leaning backward with her hand over her face and her trailing hand holding a bouquet of wildflowers, Hades wearing a crown and clutching Persephone around her waist as he strides forward with a fallen basket between his feet surrounded by strewn wildflowers, the sculpture to a round purple marble plinth with incurvate edge. Overall approximately 20.125" tall, 11.75" diameter. Bronze approximately 18.625" tall, 9" diameter.
Light wear to patination commensurate with age and light handling. No damage to the marble plinth base. No signs of breaks or losses. Some scattered oxidation to sculpture. Patina fairly even and not distracting. No signs of dents, dings or lost elements.
