East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. mid-19th to early 20th century CE. Glazed in a vibrant turquoise blue, this porcelain sculpture of a recumbent rabbit is a beautifully crafted and naturalistic work. The rabbit rests with its limbs gently tucked beneath its body and its ears resting back along its spine, exuding a sense of calm. The sculpture is hollow, with a small firing hole at the center of the base. In Chinese culture, the rabbit (or hare) is one of the twelve animals of the zodiac, symbolizing gentleness, peace, good fortune, and longevity - making this sculpture not only a decorative object but also a symbol of auspicious blessings. Size: 8" L x 3.75" W x 3.5" H (20.3 cm x 9.5 cm x 8.9 cm)
