South Asia, Northeastern India to Burma, Naga Konyak culture, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beaded headhunter's trophy necklace featuring a large cast brass pendant. The pendant depicts two conjoined conch shell forms terminating in stylized fish tails, with a row of small trophy heads emerging from the upper edge. Strung on a necklace of cylindrical white beads accented with orange beads near the pendant. Such pieces were traditionally worn by Naga warriors to signify rank, martial success, and headhunting prowess. Size of strand doubled: 30" L (76.2 cm); pendant: 5.75" L x 5" W (14.6 cm x 12.7 cm)
