Central Asia, Tibet, ca. mid-20th century CE. A repousse brass prayer wheel adorned with blue enamel inlay and mounted on a handle. Constructed from three separate pieces, the handle features a brass caps with an etched bone panel grip, highlighted with red ink to enhance the linear motifs. The wooden neck is paired with a slender metal rod, forming a durable and functional support for the wheel. The hollow nickel-brass cylinder fits onto the rod, its surface decorated with repousse flower and mantra symbols, showcasing rich religious iconography. The conical lotus bulb finial slides onto the tip of the rod. Attached to the drum-like body is a small chain, ending in a brass pellet bead, which produces the sound when the wheel is spun. Spinning the wheel is believed to have the same spiritual benefit as chanting the prayer inscribed on it, offering both a tangible connection to devotion and a sensory experience of sound. Size: 10" L x 3" Diameter (25.4 cm x 7.6 cm); 10" H (25.4 cm) on included custom stand.
