• Lot Description
  Carved wooden granary door lock from the Dogon people of Mali, featuring two stylized anthropomorphic figures seated atop the central panel. The intricate geometric and figurative carvings reflect Dogon mythology and the importance of safeguarding agricultural resources. Such locks were used to secure granary doors, protecting valuable food stores, and were crafted with symbolic imagery to invoke spiritual protection and blessings.This example showcases deep relief carving with traditional Dogon motifs, including abstract representations of ancestors or protective spirits. The original iron locking mechanism remains intact.
