Medium low dense silky wool pile on cotton foundation. Hand-knotted Heriz Serapi long runner, the rust-red field with an allover design of angular palmettes, serrated leaves and rosettes in ivory, blue and gold, centered by a navy and ivory stepped diamond medallion. Blue-ground main border of palmettes and rosettes on a vine, between camel and ivory guard stripes. Pronounced natural abrash through the field, with fringe at both ends. Persian, ca. 1900's/1920's
Condition
Very Good for its age. Hand-knotted wool pile with light to moderate even wear overall; design remains legible and the knotting reads crisply on the reverse, with no holes, patches, reweaving or other repair visible. Pronounced natural abrash through the red field, with a deeper-toned band toward one end. Scattered minor pile variation and a few small dark flecks in the field. Fringes present at both ends, trimmed short with minor loss and light fraying. Selvedges intact and secure. No staining, water marks or moth damage observed. Slight waviness along the length, inherent to a runner of this age; lies acceptably flat.
