(2 pieces) Italian "La Perla" carved alabaster sculptural table lamp on marble display pedestal, incised signature U. Stiaccini (Umberto Stiaccini, 19th-20th c.), Florence, Made in Italy, early 20th c., depicting the 'Birth of Venus', having the nude figure of Venus reclined within an open scallop shell, concealing single light, hoisted on shoulder of three cherubs, standing atop naturalistic base with coral and seashells, further rising on integral socle base, accompanied by an Italian marble pedestal with carved spiral twist and reeded standard, central meander pattern, ending on octagonal base, retaining Made in Italy label, lamp observed operating, sculpture intact with glue restoration to extended foot and some typical chips to edges, small repaired chip to pedestal rim, lamp only: approx 23"h, 18"w, 13"d, pedestal: approx 39.5"h, 10.5"w, 10.5"d **Provenance: the contents of a Stratford Hills mansion**
In my opinion regarding LOT: 2190-The lamp and the pedestal are two separate pieces, as described the lamp was observed operating, the removable clamshell top is intact, a UV light examination reveals a small repair along the edge of the removable (top) clamshell (near the figures elbow), and along the lower edge of clamshell (near putto hand), it is lacking a small piece here, see images, the foot/ankle of the figure has been reattached (as described), I further note some typical light abrasions, small losses, abrasions and light wear, I am unable to fully examine the backside, please refer to online images, one cherub wing is diminutive, it may have been reduced, however is shaped and does not react to UV light, this is minor, there may be other small repairs it is difficult to tell, the pedestal is intact with a small repair noted at the rim, there is visible clear epoxy noted at joined sections of the pedestal, this is not repair but how it was joined and could possibly be removed, both show minor typical small chips/roughness along edges, the stand sturdy and are in stable condition overall, all mentioned minor and commensurate with the age and fragile nature of the piece
