Following are more than 60 lots of Native American pottery, baskets, weavings, carvings and jewelry, headlined by an important Naskapi doll with painted coat, a rare Chinookan bark shredder, a pair of Huron moose hoof needlecases, blackware by Maria Martinez, and a room sized Navajo weaving. - Lot Description
Northern Quebec or Labrador, circa 1820, the carved wood doll wearing a finely painted miniature hide coat, with commercial cotton covering the bodice and commercial wool leggings on the stuffed legs, glass seed bead decoration on leggings, 14-1/4 in tall; on bespoke iron stand, 15 in. overall
Provenance: Alan Green, Ossining, NY; Kate and Joel Kopp Collection, New York, NY; Donald Ellis Gallery, Ontario, Canada, 1997; An Important Atlanta Private Collection
Note: According to the original invoice from Donald Ellis Gallery, "While there are approximately 50 known surviving examples of full-size Naskapi painted coats and several child's examples dating from the 18th and early 19th centuries, this doll, with its expertly painted miniature coat, is currently (1997) the only known example." In addition, the invoice cites related examples in the Royal Ontario Museum. A copy of the original receipt accompanies this lot.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
