Black patent leather seat with floral trapunto quilting and high cantle. Saddle horn covered in dark brown leather. Skirts and wooden stirrup covers of tooled russet brown leather. Has padded leather and canvas under padding. Complete with a russet leather crupper, web girth and a permanently attached olive wool and cotton mixed cassinette shabraque edged in red with a white border and decorative machine stitching, lined in blue striped pillow ticking. This particular saddle is shown on page 59 of Knopp Made in the C.S.A: Saddle Makers of the Confederacy . A well preserved Civil War era saddle.
