.50 caliber, 21.6" octagonal-to-round barrel, S/N 9051, stamped "L.F.R." on the left flat of barrel. Marked on the left side of frame with Smith's 1857 patent information, three line supplier's address and three line manufacturer's address. Mechanism functions well. Walnut forearm and buttstock stamped with two inspectors' cartouches on the left wrist. Lacks one trigger guard tang screw.
Very good, with considerable original case hardening visible on the frame. Barrel latching spring with much original blue, the balance of the carbine a mottled gray brown patina. Tight lock up with no barrel wobble, very good bore. Front sight blade a tall "shooters" replacement. A great carbine for N-SSA skirmishing.
