Original CDV Album with 14 albumen CDVs, 11 of them identified including an early photograph of General “Stonewall” Jackson and other Confederate generals. Embossed leather with brass clasps. Measuring 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches. A complete listing of images below.
Exceptional album containing identified photographs of prominent Confederate generals from the Civil War and landscape views of Centreville, Virginia, during the war. Due to its natural elevation and proximity to Washington, D.C., Centreville served as an attractive location for both Union and Confederate armies alike. The citizens of Centreville would have intimately experienced the Civil War throughout its duration, with its usage as a supply depot, a Confederate base led by John S. Mosby, and its close proximity to the first and second Battle of Manassas.
Details of each photograph in this remarkable album can be found below. The album pages all remain bound and nicely intact. The photographs themselves each appear to be in excellent condition. Includes a dedication to the frontispiece, ascribed to a Jefferson S. Wood.
