Sixth plate half-length studio portrait ambrotype. [Mississippi], circa 1861-1865. Half leatherette case with "double diamond" motif brass mat.
An incredible portrait of a double-armed Mississippi Confederate. Clad in the classic "ladder"-style jacket, often seen worn by soldiers from that state, he crosses a revolver and cavalry sword across his body to strike a warlike appearance. This features his black slouch hat and brass belt plate, which was obscured with gold gilt but still appears to be an M1851 eagle buckle.
The presence of the "double diamond" brass mat is another nice touch, as these mats almost exclusively appear with southern photographs.
