Autograph letter signed by Ernest Leolin "Lee" Lapham, Co. G, 25th Ohio Infantry. Alexandria, Virginia, 23 March 1864. 3 pages, 8vo. On rare lithographed lettersheet featuring jugate portraits of Abraham Lincoln and his cabinet.
A letter written by 18-year-old Ernest Leolin "Lee" Lapham (b. 1846), who had enlisted just a month earlier as a private into Company G of the 25th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The letter here recounts the first few weeks of traveling from Camp Chase to Washington, D.C., where he was stationed to guard supplies near Alexandria, Virginia.
Of particular note is the very rare lithographed lettersheet Lapham used, featuring portraits of President Lincoln and 8 members of his cabinet.
