M1840 musician's sword with completely unique single-edged, slightly curved spear-point blade. N.p., n.d. Unmarked. Overall approx. 32 1/2 in., blade approx. 25 in. long.
A one-off musician's sword with a bizarre, curved blade original to the hilt, complete in a matching scabbard. The sword is sourced out of Kentucky; it is unclear if it was made for the Union, Confederacy or a militia, but it would be a striking addition to a collection of musicians' swords or displayed alongside a musician's or N.C.O.'s uniform grouping.
The blade is overall clean, with some darker patination and very light pitting near the washer. The grip and pommel are somewhat crudely cast, though the guard has far fewer imperfections; the brass elements have taken on a warm patina. The original buff white leather washer is present.
