Mary Amelia Hale Cunningham + 'Watch'. Half plate indoor relievo ambrotype. N.p., [circa. mid 19th century]. Full leatherette case. With remnants of paper note identifying the subjects in the photo as 'Mary Amelia Hale Cunningham' and her dog 'Watch'.
A gorgeous half-plate studio portrait depicting a young girl, Mary Amelia, accompanied by her dog, “Watch.” Seated in an aptly sized sled, Mary can be seen layered in a lavish ermine coat over a full-length plaid dress. Harnessed to the sled, a large-breed dog reclines calmly at her side, its head gently tilted as it gazes toward the camera.
