• Lot Description
  Traite de la Vocation a l'Etat Ecclesiastique' or 'Treatise on Vocation to the Ecclesiastical State' presents a discussion on the various job roles in the church, from the earliest days of the Old Testament temples and tabernacles, all the way to those found within the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in the 17th century. Little is known about the author, Jean Girard de Ville-Thierry (d. 1709), save that he was a Parisian ascetic and prolific theological writer. This book was published in 1695 by Francois Pralard in the city of Paris. The title page bears an old ex libris signature in the margins from one 'R. M. De Soto'.   Condition

  Good overall with boards tight to spine. Front board slightly warped with top corner bent and creased slightly. Some wear to leather, particularly the spine and rear-board. Most of the gilding to the spine is preserved.
