- Lot Description
A finely crafted Indo-Persian kulunk war hammer featuring a steel head decorated throughout with gold koftgari floral and geometric motifs. One face is formed as a square hammering block with a central gold rosette design and the opposite side terminates in a long recurved beak with further koftgari ornament. The upper finial rises in a series of rounded baluster forms ending with a domed knop enriched with gold scrollwork.
The haft is constructed of hardwood and is fitted at the upper and lower sections with engraved and gold-decorated steel sleeves repeating the same floral patterns as the hammer head. Kulunks of this type were elite cavalry weapons designed to penetrate armor and crush helmets and they also served as symbols of rank within Indo-Persian martial culture.

Condition
The surface retains the original gold koftgari with minor age-related wear. The steel patina is even and stable and the decorative bands remain sharp and detailed.
