A Japanese Meiji period mixed metal and gold damascened (shippÅ-zÅgan) box, made in Kyoto or possibly from a workshop associated with Komai. The box features a gilt bronze body with delicate fine gold and silver inlay in floral and scroll motifs, using the traditional damascene technique. Plain wood lining interior. Four spherical gilt-metal feet. The typical turquoise-blue enameled underside is often found on Komai-style boxes.
