An English jewelry cabinet, 19th century, of upright rectangular form, finely crafted in richly figured rosewood with applied gadrooned molding to the base and lid, and inset with mother-of-pearl roundels and escutcheons. The front opening in two paneled doors reveals an interior fitted with four drawers, each with ivory or bone flower-shaped pulls, the drawers veneered in matching rosewood. The top opens on a brass hinge to reveal a shallow compartment, likely for rings or small objects. Raised on a slightly stepped plinth base.
England, c. 1850–1870.11 1/4 x 9 3/4 x 11 in., (29 x 25 x 28 cm.)
Condition
Very good overall; minor surface wear, a few escutcheons replaced or lacking. Excellent patina. Interior drawers function smoothly. The key is missing.
