WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA OVERSIZED STENCILED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, impressed "16" gallon capacity mark on front and reverse, with additional brushed "16" gallon capacity art base, semi-ovoid form with grooved-arched handles, rounded flat-top rim, and Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt "EXCELSIOR WORKS / Isaac Hewitt, Jr. / RICES LANDING, PA.", brushed cobalt horizontal flower and vine decoration above stencil, additional brushed cobalt stripes at rim, center, and base, and surrounding handle terminals.
