WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA OVERSIZED STENCILED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, stenciled "16" gallon capacity, cylindrical form with a slight shoulder, arched handles, rounded flat-top rim, and Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt "JAMES HAMILTON & CO.. / GREENSBORO. / PA." surrounding by scroll and leaf ornaments, brushed cobalt scrolling vines below rim and above capacity, two striped below rim and one at base, cobalt also surrounding the handle terminals. Excellent undamaged condition except for a shallow chip to inner rim, firing crack to interior side wall, as made, minor staining to base.
