20th Century - A figural hard stone and enamel cane; the 3 7/8" x 1 1/2" handle is cut from a natural jasper to depict a hippopotamus head; the handle screws on to an antique ebony shaft and ends is a 1 1/8" flat nickel ferrule; the bright yellow guilloche enamel in the handle is accented with vermeil laurels and set with diamonds; the common red color is due to iron inclusions. These artifacts are deeply connected to the renowned Fabergé workshops, capturing a rich history that resonates with many.
After the revolution, the talented artisans who had once crafted these exquisite pieces for Fabergé not only finished the objects but also entrusted them to their heirs, ensuring that their legacy and artistry would be cherished and preserved for future generations.
The use of Fabergé hallmarks had become impossible due to the closure of the workshops that once produced these iconic pieces.
This decision likely stemmed from a variety of factors, including economic challenges and changes in ownership and marking the end of a significant era in the history of luxury craftsmanship. Many of these type canes are in private collections and museums with their owners think they are from the original workshop. No expense was spared by the artist who made these canes.
Each auction has different shipping terms but the buyer always pays.
