19th Century - An exceptional and historically significant American advertising cane constructed entirely of intertwined steel fence wire and retaining its original stamped brass presentation cap reading "Compliments of J. Haish "S" Barb Steel Fence Wire De Kalb, Ill", this remarkable promotion cane was produced by Jacob Heish, one of the pioneering figures in the barbed wire industry and competitor in explosive expansion of Western fencing in the late 19th Century, the shaft is formed from tightly intertwined links of period steel fence wire demonstrating age consistent with late 19th Century manufacture, brass cap with "S" Barb design one of the early and highly collectible barb wire patterns produced during the period. Structurally stable with some surface oxidation but is in otherwise excellent overall condition. OL-34 3/4"
