Artist Bio
Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was one of the most influential modernists of the 20th century, known for his dreamlike imagery, poetic symbolism, and vibrant use of color. Born in Belarus and later settling in France, Chagall infused his art with themes of Jewish life, folklore, and biblical narratives. His Bible series, initiated in the 1930s at the behest of publisher Ambroise Vollard and completed with Tériade in the 1950s, reflects Chagall’s profound engagement with scripture and his ability to translate sacred themes into visionary compositions. Today, his works are housed in leading museums worldwide and remain highly sought after by collectors.
