An Important Pair of George IV Sterling Silver Three-Light Candelabra
Makers: Joseph Craddock and William Ker Reid, London, 1820–1827Each on a shaped circular base with knopped stem, densely chased with scrolls, masks, flowerheads, foliage, and rocaille ornament. The three foliate scroll branches terminate in female busts supporting circular drip pans with floral borders and conforming campana-form sconces, fitted with removable nozzles engraved with a crest. The candelabra are surmounted by a central leaf-wrapped bud finial. Stems fully marked for 1827, branches marked for 1820.
Dimensions: 18 x 15 1/2 in. each
Total Weight: approx. 227.90 troy oz.
Condition: Overall good; chasing remains crisp, minor surface wear consistent with age and use, crests well preserved.Maker Bio
Joseph Craddock and William Ker Reid were prominent English silversmiths active in the early 19th century, known for their richly decorated silver in the rococo and neoclassical styles. Their partnership produced works of grand scale and opulent detail, often commissioned for the aristocracy and significant civic presentations.
