Description
Early 19th Century; Original, 23” height, 45.5” width, 21.5” depth; fully carved hinged, lidded blanket chest; appears to be a cedar-type wood; lid has center leaf medallion flanked by shields, front has deeply carved mythological lion with scroll in mouth, with perimeter having vine and leaf decorations; side panels have an 11” by 14” carved smiling mythological face; chest is supported with large carved claw feet; multiple cracks, shrinkage, chipping and scattered scratches throughout, needs professional cleaning, please see photos; We will not be responsible for the shipping of furniture and large objects, so the winning bidder will be responsible for scheduling shipping arrangement or courier pickup within 30 days of auction date.

Nineteenth-century Spanish carved cassone trunks are, in many cases, 19th-century Neo-Renaissance or Baroque revival pieces designed to emulate earlier, ornate wedding chests used for storing dowries and linens. Often crafted from walnut or chestnut, these chests feature heavy carving, intricate geometric designs, and wrought-iron hardware, frequently reflecting regional Spanish styles or 17th-century baroque influences.

We DO offer in house shipping. We DO NOT provide shipping estimates. We at Mebane Antique Auction Gallery, count it a privilege to be able to service our customers through our shipping department. Bidders are always welcome to pickup at our gallery in lieu of shipping. MAAG will not arrange shipping for oversized items. It is on the bidder to find a courier or pick up at our gallery. Online Bidders: We will add shipping charges to your invoice once we have your shipping cost. Once payment for the invoice is received, we will have our shipping department package and prepare your items for shipping. That means we automatically prepare items for shipping after payment is collected. We use the address listed on your account for shipping.
