Offered in this lot are Extremely Rare Little Bighorn Battlefield B-52 Aerial Photographs (6), Crow Indian Reservation, Montana, 1961. The Battle of the Little Bighorn, known to the Lakota and other Plains Indians as the Battle of the Greasy Grass and commonly referred to as Custer's Last Stand, was an armed engagement between combined forces of the Lakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes and the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army led by Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer. The battle took place along the Little Bighorn River in southeastern Montana Territory. The battle, which resulted in the defeat of U.S. forces, was the most significant action of the Great Sioux War of 1876. The 326th Bombardment Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit that was assigned to the 4141st Strategic Wing stationed at Glasgow Air Force Base, Montana as part of the Strategic Air Command. From 1959 to 1963, B-52 Stratofortress aircraft were based at Glasgow. The photographs are on thick stock paper, each is dated: two are 7-1-61 and five are 7-7-61. Each photograph is different orientation image as evidenced by the images of the winding Little Bighorn River. Each photo is coded: CCL-4BB-167, CCL-4BB-97, CCL-4BB-99, CCL-4BB-34, CCL-4BB-32, CCL-4BB-165. The photographs are in nicely preserved condition, very slight age tanning. Overall measures for each 18"W x 18"L, collective weight is 12oz.
