Numerous illustrations from photographs including several unpublished from major private collections. Original publisher?s blue cloth gilt, top edges gilt (corners and ends gently rubbed, occasional soiling to covers, joints tender). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE (as noted in the beginning of the index of Volume X) of this mammoth work with contributions by over 39 eminent individuals including President William H. Taft and veteran offices of both Confederate and Union forces.
