DOYLE, Arthur Conan (1859-1930). The Crime of the Congo. New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1909.8vo. Original wrappers printed in red (extremities sunned, small chip at lower corner of front panel).FIRST AMERICAN EDITION IN THE RARE WRAPPERS (commonly seen in the cloth). In an interview for the British Congregationalist (25 November 1909), Doyle explained his keen sympathy with the Congo natives went back several years, and that he wrote The Crime of the Congo to exploit the ?ghastly horrors? happening to the Congo people that was brought on by the King of the Belgians. Doyle wrote a special preface for the American edition. Green and Gibson B8b. -- [With:] another copy, cloth issue.
