[HEMINGWAY, Ernest (1899-1961), association]. HEMINGWAY, Mary Welsh (1908-1986). Typed Letter Signed. [N.p.], Oct. 19th, 1959. 3 typed pages on two sheets of plain white paper. Approximately 11 x 8 1/2". Light toning, soiling, occasional light wrinkling. Fine. Not specifically addressed to Ernest (but this is written to him), and signed in pencil with her initial ("M"). This letter was written in the form of a situation report at the time of the Cuban revolution: "This is the Finca and Cuba Situation Report There is such a lot to tell you, I'll put it into departments as much as I can." The "departments" are: "Welfare of Friends", "Situation at Finca". Some of the things she writes about include "Roberto - transferred from Sears store - no stoves left to sell - to work in wearhouse [sic], salary cut from average $300, with commissikons, to $140 - violently pro-revolution, happy make any sacrifices necessary now, brimming with hope and confidence..." "Called Gregorio, suggested we go fishing in Pilar. He said, better Tin Kid. Pilar not in good condition. I invited him to come chat here at house. Turs out Pilar hasn't been up on the ways for a cleaning of her bottom in seven months..."
"You asked a reminder of what you could bring with you on boat. Only 3 things: 1. My American Express Credit card, if it arrived. 2. Small box of Dupont Cigarette Lighter gas refills. 3. Vuitton bottle bag, which they will deliver to Ritz hotel and is paid for by Credit card...." "Cristobal Colon, the sybarite, is fine, lazy, loving and willing to have me share breakfast, lunch and dinner with him. Ambrose fine, Strangey fine and loving as ever. Misouri, orange kitty and other cats in good shape. Dogs noisy but okay..."

We will not be responsible for the acts or omissions of carriers or packers whether or not recommended by us. Property will not be released to the shipper without the buyer's written consent and until payment has been made in full. Packing and handling by us of purchased lots is at the entire risk of the purchaser, and Potter and Potter Auctions, Inc. will have no liability of any loss or damage to such items. Packing and shipping expenses shall be added to buyer's invoice and will reflect a charge for labor, materials, insurance, transportation, as well as actual shipper fees.
