- Lot Description
[LITHOGRAPHY]. [NATIVE AMERICANS]. Group of Four Gruesome Trade Cards. M. F. Tobin for A. L. Foster & Co. New England Clothiers and Foster Besse & Co., [ca. 1880s]. Color lithographed trade cards with bloody imagery featuring Native Americans and Caucasian boys, each with a poetical caption; three cards with advertising text on versos. Some rubbing, minor soiling; versos with soiling, glue residue. Excellent. An unusual group; it seems strange that a clothier would use these disturbing images to advertise clothing. From the Mark Rucker Collection.
