Albumen approximately 3 ? x 2". Mount approximately 4 x 2 ?". Minor toning, rubbing, faint thumbsoiling, small ink note (?247A") on verso. Fine. On January 8, 1864, Brady took five photographs of Lincoln, this being one of them, the famous ?Solitary Pine" pose of Lincoln standing with his left arm behind his back. The nickname of this pose came from a comment by Francis Grierson who saw Lincoln debate Stephen A. Douglas; Lincoln ?rose from his seat, stretched his long, bony limbs upwards as if to get them in working order and stood like some solitary pine on a lonely summit." Rare.
