  [R.M.S. TITANIC]. ROBERTSON, Morgan (1861?1915). The Wreck of the Titan, or Futility. New York: McClure?s Magazine, 1912. 8vo. Original publisher?s red cloth gilt (sunning to spine, light soiling). Later edition, SIGNED SENTIMENT FROM AUTHOR TIPPED-IN ON HALF TITLE. The Wreck of the Titan was first published in 1898 and gained infamy following the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912, with Robertson?s imagined disaster containing eerie parallels to the real life horror which unfolded on the North Atlantic fourteen years later; like the Titanic, Robertson?s fictional liner struck an iceberg on a cold April night and sank, its lack of lifeboats resulting in the deaths of nearly 2,000 people. Mark Dimunation, Chief of Rare Books and Special Collections at the Library of Congress, has said of the book, ?I challenge anyone not to raise an eyebrow. It?s all within inches of being completely identical.?
