STEINBECK, John (1902-1968). East of Eden. New York: The Viking Press, 1952. 8vo. 602 pp. Publisher's full green buckram, front board lettered in gilt, spine stamped in brown and lettered in gilt, all edges red, in publisher's original slipcase with simulated wood-grain boards.
Very faint rubbing to cloth spine and corners, hinges slightly foxed, a few occasional scratches to fore-edge of text block; slipcase restored and repaired, mainly at upper and lower edges. Bright and fine. FIRST EDITION, ONE OF 1,500 COPIES SIGNED BY STEINBECK ON AN INSERTED LEAF. This novel is the basis of the 1955 film by Elia Kazan, starring James Dean. A beautiful copy, much better than usually seen.
