Illustrated. 485, [1, blank] pp. Beautifully bound in modern half brown morocco over marbled boards, spine ruled and lettered in dark brown in compartments, five raised bands (spine a bit toned, text a bit toned). Fine. FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY HALEY ON THE FRONT BLANK: ?Inscribed for W. E. Hubbard, friend of Alice and Bob's and anticipated friend of J. Evetts Haley. Austin June 17, 1936". It is unknown who Hubbard was, but the Goodnights employed a cleaning woman, and unofficially adopted her son, Cleo Hubbard, as their own. Cleo Hubbard eventually donated Goodnight artifacts to the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. It is possible that ?W. E. Hubbard" is related to Cleo Hubbard in some way.
